Image intensifier tube repair, repot and rebuild service

"Stripped and cleaned image intensifier
module ready for coating and testing "

Enthusiasts in the night vision world will be aware that supplies of good quality low priced image intensifier tubes are getting very hard to come by, making a tube failure in a 2nd generation device very costly to replace, maybe even writing the whole device off. Knowing this, we have invested heavily in our new image intensifier tube repair process. This offers a high quality, cost effective alternative to complete tube replacement.

The process

There are many different types of partial tube failure such as flickering/strobing, bright points, darkness at the edge of the image that can enable us to give you a rough idea of what is wrong with your tube and give you a rough estimate but this is only a rough estimate. The only way to fully diagnose a tube fault is to strip the tube down into it's component parts (module, high voltage power supply and control module) and then prepare these components for individual bench testing. This preparation is very labour intensive and carries a £100 labour/materials charge.

Once the components have been tested we can issue you with a complete quotation to rebuild the image intensifier tube.

The most common cause of failure is that the silicone compound that contained the high electrical voltages in the module has broken down causing the tube to flicker or suddenly stop working. If this is the case then the tube simply needs to be reassembled into a new boot, potted with new silicone and degassed in a vacuum. This type of rebuild would cost £75 labour + £35 parts and materials. The total cost for rebuild, including initial test and stripdown would be £210. This example is for a std.Gen2+ fat anvis tube with flying lead connections.

The second most common failure is that the high voltage power supply has developed a fault causing the tube to simply not work. Power supplies can either be replaced with reclaimed units with a limited warranty or with brand new units with full warranty depending on the exact image intensifier tube model.

Repairs are covered by a 12 month warranty for parts and labour, except where reclaimed parts have been requested by the customer, then these reclaimed parts are covered by a 3 month warranty.

If you have any questions or have an image intensifier tube that needs repairing, then please contact us to discuss it further.
